This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2023. 

Gilmore College is seeking to appoint a dedicated and effective Associate Principal to a permanent position for 2023. In collaboration with the Principal and members of the administrative team, the Associate Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness. We are seeking an individual who can build and maintain effective relationships quickly with all stakeholders.

As a member of the administration, you will join us in promoting and maintaining aspects of the school culture that encourage and support positive relationships and active engagement between students, staff, parents, and the wider community. The ideal applicant will have experience using effective change strategies to lead the school community in a process of continual reflection on practices and data with a view to developing opportunities for improvement or engagement.

The successful applicant will lead the school community in a portfolio linked to one of the school priorities, which could include Academic Achievement, Excellence in Teaching or Learning Environment. This role requires a dynamic, innovative leader who displays initiative and problem-solving skills. The successful applicant will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be flexible and able to work collaboratively with others. The successful applicant will ideally have the ability to think and plan strategically and to identify innovative and practical solutions to problems and challenges.

As Associate Principal your high level of leadership will build capacity at all levels as you support and work collaboratively with staff, ensuring professional learning and performance management strategies empower all staff to realise their potential whilst improving their accountability to the College Business Plan objectives. The successful applicant will be a proven high performer with demonstrated leadership and management experience and strong professional knowledge. Knowledge and experience in instructional leadership, coaching and working as part of a professional learning community will be considered highly desirable.

Gilmore College is an Independent Public School which opened in 2008 continuing 52 previous years of secondary education provided by Kwinana Senior High School. The school continues the education of students from within the City of Kwinana area primary schools.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

TRAINING

Employees will be required to:

  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
