The role of a Design and Technology Teacher or Vocational Trainer and Assessor (VTA) at Narrogin is to design, prepare and deliver quality training programs and assessment strategies in Engineering for Year 10 to Year 12 students.

We are seeking to appoint someone who can deliver the Certificate II in Engineering Pathways. We are looking for the right Design and Technology Teacher or a VTA.

About you

The successful applicant will have experience in the delivery of the design and technology metals or VET Engineering Certificate courses. It is highly desirable for applicants to possess industry currency, formal qualifications in engineering and the capacity to facilitate large scale industry specific projects.

WA College of Agriculture (WACOA) – Narrogin is located 200kms south east and less than 2 hours from the centre of Perth. The College is a nationally recognised education and training institution and a ‘school of choice’, offering students in Year 10 to Year 12 an innovative approach to learning. The college is made up of four primary areas – Farm, Trade Training Centre (Trades), Class and Residential, all of which will be working within the ‘Trades’ area of the college.

The college is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) offering a variety of nationally accredited certificate training courses and our facilities, plant, and equipment area always at the cutting edge of industry awards

The college is an education facility 6 kms from a regional town with good recreational facilities and shopping. The college has a friendly and professional body of staff. The Department of Education provides further professional training to the suitable applicant.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

  • Relevant current industry skills, knowledge, experience and competency in the industry vocation or professional field.
  • Comprehensive understanding and sound knowledge of the Vocational Education and Training Quality Framework, including Training Packages, Australian Qualifications Framework, the Standards for RTOs, Recognition of Prior Learning and competency-based training and assessment.
  • Ability to design and prepare training programs and assessment materials to a high standard.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills with the appropriate interpersonal skills for working with young people.
  • Initiative and organisational skills and the ability to work as a member of a team.

  • Hold a relevant Certificate lll trade qualification or relevant higher qualification.

  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

Training

Employees will be required to:

  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six (6) months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
