Burns Beach Primary School (PS) are seeking a dedicated and hardworking cleaner to join our friendly team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated cleaner with a passion for the role and a willingness to focus on maintaining high standards associated with cleanliness.

The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting the Cleaner In Charge (CIC) with ensuring the school facilities are cleaned and maintained in accordance with Department of Education policies and procedures. As a member of a newly established primary school and our highly valued maintenance team, they will take pride in being able to consistently keep our school environment a clean and hygienic place for students and staff to enjoy.

As a cleaner at Burns Beach PS, their responsibilities will include carrying out internal cleaning duties, including the maintenance of carpets and hard floor surfaces, toilet cleaning, furniture and fittings, window cleaning, dusting, rubbish removal and other items of general cleaning. In addition to this, the successful applicant will also perform external cleaning duties, including the cleaning of verandas and covered areas, rubbish removal, cleaning of drinking troughs, window cleaning, removal of cobwebs, other general cleaning and other such duties as required by the CIC.

The successful applicant will ideally possess the following attributes; they will be caring; show empathy; be optimistic; self-reflective; have a sense of humour, and; be able to work well both individually and as part of a team to ensure a clean and safe school environment. They successful applicant should have good attention to detail, be organised and have excellent knowledge of cleaning equipment and safe cleaning procedures, methods and practices.

Eligibility and training requirements 

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check

And complete the Department’s:

  • Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
  • Induction program within three months of commencement
  • Online training in manual tasks and hazardous substances within three months of commencement
  • Fundamentals of Cleaning training as soon as practicable
  • Training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • Training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

The Department applies a ten (10) day breach period to this selection process.

Applications must be submitted before 3.30pm (WST) on Tuesday 29 November 2022.
