This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2023

John Tonkin College is seeking a confident, innovative and successful Program Coordinator to join their team.

The successful applicant should be adaptable and open to leading a portfolio that may change along with the school’s needs. Initially, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for the leadership of the current Department of Education Approved Specialist Program – Surf Science, as well as the development of new specialised programs. It is possible that the successful applicant will also need to lead a learning area.

The Program Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Deputy Principal to lead and manage a large, dynamic and dedicated team devoted to the delivery of outstanding pastoral care to optimise student wellbeing and academic performance. The successful applicant should possess a high level of interpersonal skills in working with students, parents, staff and the wider community.  

The successful applicant will ideally have a proven ability in fostering and developing effective partnerships with external agencies and organisational, planning and operational skills to meet individual student needs and develop positive school culture. We are seeking a professional and dedicated applicant who will ideally possess sound knowledge and skills in curriculum and pastoral care. Substantial teaching and leadership experience is highly desirable.   

John Tonkin College, centrally located in the City of Mandurah, heralds a new era for public education in Mandurah and provides outstanding opportunities for secondary students. The college offers a broad choice of courses and programs for Year 7 to 12 students in the Peel region, as well as the southern metropolitan corridor.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs)
  • Capacity to manage physical and financial resources

  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
