Collie Senior High School (SHS) are seeking to establish a pool of Deputy Principals for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2022 and 2023 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2022 and 2023 school year.

There will be at least on permanent postion commencing Term 4, 2022.

Suitable applicants will ideally use effective change management strategies to assist the school community to accept and develop opportunities for improved service.

Suitable applicants will support the Principal to facilitate workforce effectiveness in leading and motivating staff in planning directed at improving outcomes for students and the level of service delivered by the school. They will play a significant role in the daily management of staff and student wellbeing and may have responsibility for management, or shared management, of all Deputy roles including the oversight of Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

Suitable applicants will establish and manage administrative and operational systems in the relevant area of responsibility to deliver effective school operations within legislative and industrial policy and guidelines. They will contribute to developing the School Plan through participative decision-making, including assisting in developing policy, and establishing and maintaining systems. Our current focus is individual student pathways and attendance.

The curriculum at our school is diverse and varied. The range of courses offered in the senior school includes a broad range of Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) courses leading to university, further VET training and the workforce. As a result of the implementation of such a broad selection, students have consistently successfully accessed their desired tertiary entrance. Collie SHS also utilises the School of Isolated & Distance Education to further broaden course access and personal skill development around independent learning and on-line learning.

Collie SHS is situated in a very vibrant country town just over two hour’s drive south of Perth, with all of the benefits of the South West on our doorstep. There are a wide variety of outdoor activities available in and around the town and it is an excellent starting point to explore this part of the State. GROH housing is currently available, and the position also attracts a district allowance. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience in a quality school within the Southwest.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.

TRAINING

Employees will be required to:

  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
