This is a permanent part-time (0.63FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2022
Corrigin District High School (DHS) is seeking to appoint a hard-working, reliable Gardener – Handyperson who is willing to assist in any area of the gardening.
In this role you will show initiative by using your skills to benefit the school in maintaining and presenting the school grounds and gardens in a clean tidy condition, providing students and staff with a safe external learning environment.
The successful applicant will have a passion for the outdoors and enjoy working to provide a suitable growing environment for our students and staff. You will maintain tools and horticultural equipment in a serviceable condition and perform minor repairs and maintenance as well as perform tasks and duties using safe work practices, with minimal disruption to students and staff. You will provide advice and support to the Manager Corporate Service on school grounds maintenance and maintain accurate gardening records.
We are looking for an applicant who is friendly, helpful and caring; a punctual team player who enjoys gardening and taking pride in their work to keep our amazing gardens and ovals looking ship shape.
Corrigin DHS situated in the southern wheatbelt 240 km from Perth, caters for students from kindergarten through to Year 10. We have specialised teachers and education assistants who provide innovative and engaging classes for all children. We have a strong focus on developing literacy and numeracy skills, especially in the junior primary section of the school, but students enjoy the challenges provided by our exemplary teachers of all learning areas.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
- Complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
