Karratha Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a compassionate, dedicated and student-focused leader to join our team in the role of Program Coordinator - Student Wellbeing.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly focused and enthusiastic school leader who will collaboratively lead within the Student Services team by focusing on student wellbeing through the lens of student engagement, attendance, positive mental health and collaboratively coordinating and/or delivering preventative programs addressing identified areas of concern. Experience of working with students and families from disadvantaged backgrounds using trauma informed practice is highly desirable. The successful applicant will work in collaboration with the Executive Team, Heads of Learning Area (HOLAs), and external agencies to manage and resolve student behaviour issues. You should communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including in parent/carer meetings, case conferences, referrals to support agencies and restorative practice discussions between individuals to resolve conflict.
This represents an exciting opportunity for a leader who has a strong vision, experience, and professional knowledge regarding student wellbeing and the skills required to lead, manage and build capacity in teaching and non-teaching staff who comprise the Student Services Team. The successful applicant would support activities and initiatives developed and implemented by the Student Wellbeing Team, to develop positive school culture and relationships between students and staff.
The successful applicant will ideally have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maximise the effectiveness of the Student Wellbeing team by continuing to develop a calm, productive environment and a culture where everyone can contribute. The successful applicant would ideally be inclusive, flexible and proactive as they collaborate with the broader Student Wellbeing Team (including School Psychologists, Chaplains, Student Support Officers, Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers, Clontarf Academy and Stars Foundation) and families to co-design proactive strategies and supports for students with ongoing behaviour issues.at a class, year or whole school level.
Strengths in behaviour management and knowledge of current behaviour support principles and practices, aligned with the Department of Education Managing Student Behaviour are integral to the role. Knowledge and training in Classroom Management Strategies (CMS), Restorative Practices, and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) will be highly desirable. The successful applicant will play a significant role in the daily management of student behaviour, health and wellbeing, engagement and attendance.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
