Harrisdale Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a teacher of AUSLAN, ideally with the experience, dedication and drive to develop a culture of excellence in teaching and learning.

An appointment to Harrisdale SHS presents a tremendously exciting opportunity to join the staff of a new high school committed to improving students’ lives through learning and achievement. The successful applicant will enjoy a unique opportunity to help establish the school’s Languages Department and will play a vital role in developing the school’s emphases on pastoral care and co-curricular programs.

The successful applicant will ideally be a passionate, motivated, and skilled educator who is committed to improving outcomes for every child, every day, through our whole school approaches, explicit teaching, and instructional strategies. They should pursue excellence in teaching, have high expectations and value planning in collaborative teams to develop consistent, high quality teaching and learning programs. It is desirable that the successful applicant possesses a high level of collaborative practice, together with interpersonal skills, to enable effective participation and engagement within the school and community to purposefully build partnerships.

The successful applicant will ideally possess knowledge and understanding of the AUSLAN curriculum, displaying current and effective teaching practice, and be supportive of the school’s ethos, strategic goals and directions for child-centred learning. We are looking for applicants who are creative in their approach and recognise student individualities and cultural diversity. The successful applicant will provide an inclusive and differentiated learning environment that fosters children’s learning and development.

Harrisdale SHS offers a wonderful opportunity for local students to access a high-quality secondary education close to home. Currently, the school has an enrolment of 2,040 students. In 2022, the 'Year 7 Class of 2017' will graduate as Year 12 students.

Harrisdale is a rapidly growing suburb located approximately 28 kilometres south of the Perth CBD. The school is located on Laverton Crescent, adjacent to the City of Armadale's new playing fields and sports pavilion and Harrisdale Primary School.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
