Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a willingness to collaborate with colleagues, parents and external networks to establish strong community partnerships are highly desirable.
The successful applicant will ideally possess the professional knowledge, practices and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant curriculum using a positive, student-focused approach and have success working with students across a range of ability levels, including multi-age/split year groups. An understanding and/or experience in the use of Explicit Instruction to deliver Daily Reviews as well as programs such as Corrective Reading would be highly regarded.

Our school
Wananami RCS provides teaching and learning programs from Kindergarten to Year 10, for predominantly Indigenous students, aged between 4 and 16 years. Most students come from an Aboriginal English or English as a second dialect background and some are familiar with the local Aboriginal language, 'Ngarinyin'. Despite the school's isolated location, many programs and facilities are available to the students including wifi, satellite internet, fibre optic connection between classrooms, a range of digital learning equipment, fully equipped commercial kitchen, an edible garden with adjoining gardening tool shed for students, both a sports shed and an extensive bicycle shed, a new library and picturesque gardens and grounds. There are three classrooms including an Early Childhood Centre with a recently refurbished playground area, complete with new shade sails, benches and environmental playground elements.
Our classes are structured as multi-age groups with the Junior Class devoted to Kindergarten to Year 1, the Middle Class dedicated to Years 2 to 4, the Upper Primary class focusing on Years 4 to 6 and a High School SIDE class. The dedicated staff consists of a Principal, five teachers, a Manager Corporate Services and a number of support staff, including a part-time Gardener and Cleaner.
The location and community
Three times larger than England and with a population of less than 40,000, the Kimberley region, spread over Australia's entire north-western corner, is one of the world's last wilderness frontiers. Here you'll find prolific wildlife, majestic waterfalls, freshwater swimming holes and several outback stations, as well as one of Australia's greatest 4WD road trips. Despite the area's remoteness, it's also a place of great food, luxury accommodation, friendly locals and one of the most romantic beach towns on Earth.
Just about everything here is rare and remote, from rock formations that are two billion years old to luxury outback retreats. The Kimberley also contains thousands of tropical forest-topped islands, towering ochre cliffs, flat waterfalls and rock art galleries that scientists believe may be the oldest in the world

Remote Community Schools
Schools in the Remote Teaching Service are located in some of the most isolated parts of the State. They may be in community settings or small towns, and the majority of students are from local Aboriginal families. They deliver flexible and innovative education programs to ensure students in remote areas have access to high quality learning programs.
Teaching in a remote school offers a range of professional opportunities for teachers who are engaging and resilient. If you are flexible and like working as part of a team you have the opportunity to be part of this innovative learning community. Skills and interests in literacy, numeracy and English as an additional language/dialect (EAL/D) are highly valued.
Teachers who live and work in the remote teaching service tell us that it makes them better teachers, and better people. The Department of Education also supports our teachers by providing a range of additional allowances and benefits.
For additional information to all allowances and housing please contact Housing and Transport at housing.transport@education.wa.edu.au or on (08) 9264 5154.
