Narrogin Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an innovative, energetic and highly motivated Hospitality and Home Economics Teacher.
The successful applicant ideally will have excellent interpersonal skills and be committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and academic achievement in a supportive environment where success is celebrated. Real world experience in hospitality service is highly desirable.
Ideally, you should be student and relationship focused, highly motivated, innovative and able to work effectively in a team environment, as well as displaying an engaging and energetic teaching style. You will reflect and assess the effectiveness of your teaching practice using a variety of methods available, promote an environment of active and positive learning and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve their highest potential.

The school is currently a Year 7 to 12 campus of 650 students with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and a committed and competent workforce. The school is recognised for its flexible approach to education and training. The Hilltop Café Trade Training Centre, operates on site to deliver a restaurant service to members of the public one day a week, where students are given the opportunity to engage in workplace learning.
Narrogin SHS is situated in the heart of Western Australia's rich agricultural area and with over 650 students we are the largest Senior High School in the region, with three local feeder primary schools and TAFE that work closely with the school. Narrogin SHS also draws students from regional areas including Boddington, Wickepin, Pingelly and Wagin. Narrogin is a major service and educational centre about two hours’ drive (193 km) from Perth and has the benefits of a country town with the convenience of a regional city. The hinterland is a farming area, with grain and wool production the major primary activities. The town’s motto Love the Life is true to form with many activities and events for everyone to enjoy.
The nostalgic two storey structure of the school has pride of place in the town and has been built on the highest point in the district with sweeping views of the town and the hinterlands. An extensive building program has resulted in a new Hospitality Trade Training Facility, a new Administration building and new state of the art Music and Performing Arts centres.
Narrogin SHS has an improvement agenda focused on improving student outcomes through consistent approaches to pedagogy and positive behaviour strategies. Teachers at Narrogin SHS continue to develop their skills through dynamic professional learning along with nominating for leadership positions within the school as they arise. There is a strong focus on Professional Learning Teams which all teaching staff are engaged with to ensure our priorities are addressed throughout the school.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
