East Wanneroo Primary School is looking for a School Psychologist who is a team player and is prepared to work with staff, parents and students to achieve the best possible outcomes. The School has a rich and diverse community, engaging families from many cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Staff work hard to make all families feel welcome when entering the school and work as a team to cater for students’ needs. To achieve this, we are creating a wrap around approach to cater for those students who require additional support academically, socially or emotionally.
The School Psychologist is an integral member of the school’s Student Services team and works collaboratively with colleagues to maximise outcomes for students. The ability to work in a team environment is ideal, as well as engaging with students, families, and external agencies to establish strong partnerships. The School Psychologist will assist with the development and implementation of school-based support services and programs, conduct assessments and support the development of plans to meet the needs of individuals. They may also be required to provide professional learning to both staff and community in areas such as mental health, behaviour support, learning and student engagement.
Suitable applicants will be reflective on their own practice and want to be part of a team environment. They will ideally be able to work collaboratively with the Student Services Deputy, School Chaplain and School Nurse to support staff, students and the wider community.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold or be eligible for general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; or
- hold or be eligible for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with:
- an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited 5th year qualification in psychology; or
- an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited 4th year qualification and a recognised qualification in teaching (or Graduate Diploma in School Psychology)
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
