This is a permanent part-time (0.38FTE) position commencing Term 2, 2022
Borden Primary School (PS) is seeking a dedicated individual to join their team as a Gardener - Handyperson.
As the successful applicant you will be passionate about gardening and possess good knowledge of the gardening seasons. You will also possess good communication skills and a sound knowledge of gardening equipment and tools required for minor maintenance. There are well established gardens to maintain and scope for small expansion projects.
The successful applicant will be required to perform basic gardener/handyperson duties and maintain and present the school grounds, gardens and sporting areas in a clean and tidy condition, providing a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. You will maintain tools and horticultural equipment in a serviceable condition and perform minor repairs and maintenance in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines.
Borden PS is a small attractive school nestled in a picturesque farming environment. The town is located just over an hour's drive north-east of Albany, a beautiful port town, and about 400 kilometres south-east from Perth, an easy four hour drive. The Stirling Ranges, a world renowned biodiversity hot spot, are on the doorstep and the beautiful beaches of Bremer Bay are only an hour away.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
