Yanchep Rise Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Mainstream Education Assistants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise from Term 2, 2022 and up to the end of Term 1, 2023. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements from Term 2, 2022 and up to the end of Term 1, 2023

As an Education Assistant – Mainstream you will assist in the delivery of planned education programs that will help in the development of young minds. In this role you will collaborate and work in a team environment. Highly developed interpersonal skills will be highly valued by the selection panel. You will ideally possess good written and oral communication skills enabling implementation of individual or small group programs, and the ability to support general health and well-being of students. You should be able to work unsupervised with students on a needs basis. You will ideally be organised and be able to use your initiative to assist with the preparation and maintenance of the learning environment.

Suitable applicants will work under teacher direction in a diverse role. You will ideally have the ability to work with students of all ages, regardless of individual abilities and needs. You will support teachers to deliver programs and Individual Education Programs whilst also providing assessment feedback and showing initiative to provide learning opportunities that develop or complement a student’s Individual Education Program. As a Mainstream Education Assistant you will also provide support to ensure the learning environment is inclusive and relevant with the health and safety of students being a high priority. Experiences delivering small groups interventions such as multi-Lit, and Direct Instruction is highly desirable.

Suitable applicants will ideally have the ability to manage student behaviour in accordance with school policies and programs. Experience with the WA Positive Behaviour Support program, 1-2-3 Magic and Zones of Regulation would be considered desirable. You should also have a strong desire to work with students in a school setting.

We seek enthusiastic team members who show initiative in adapting tasks to meet student needs, who continually reflect on their practice and who are open to being observed and receiving feedback to guide their professional growth. You will contribute advice and expertise; collaborating with staff to support and monitor student progress.

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of our school vision and Business Plan is expected. It is expected that staff joining our team will become RISERs. Applicants who demonstrate experience in effective use of Classroom Management Strategies and Trauma Informed Practices would be desirable.

Yanchep Rise PS is the new school in Yanchep which opened for the start of the 2021 school year. Located at 110 Moorpark Avenue, it will ease pressure on surrounding primary schools in the Yanchep area catering for 430 students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Foundation Principal Ms Helen Demiris is working with the community to lead the creation of the school and develop a strong vision and ethos. A priority will be to develop strong, partnerships with our local community and the broader community to promote and sustain effective networks. The school staff will aim to nurture the educational, social and emotional well-being of all its students ensuring they are equipped to achieve the high standards that will be expected in all areas of school life. This will enable our students to become confident lifelong learners able to create positive relationships with others.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Sound oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with students, parents, and teaching professionals.
  • Sound interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Sound organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective educational programs to students.

ELIGIBILITY

Education Assistants working with Kindergarten students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care.

Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority

TRAINING

Employees will be required to:

  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
