Are you an inspiring and dedicated leader?

South Hedland Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a hardworking and motivated Deputy Principal to join our friendly and supportive leadership team.

In collaboration with the Principal and the executive team, the Deputy Principal will provide educational leadership by developing and promoting the school’s vision, business plan and strategic directions across the school community. A significant responsibility of the Deputy Principal is to embed and maintain aspects of the school culture that promote positive relationships between students and staff, as well as engaging parents, caregivers and the wider community in the educational work of the school.

The successful applicant will plan strategically for positive outcomes using their vast knowledge of curriculum, instructional practices and coaching. You should possess excellent interpersonal and organisation skills and use these to promote and sustain a culture of educational best practice.

South Hedland PS currently accommodates 240 children on site, from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our school is regarded by the community as promoting a supportive learning environment and where all staff demonstrate concern and care for children. There is a strong emphasis on pastoral care in our school and we foster strong relationships with our parents and the community to support student learning. Many students come from families where English is a second language and includes families from diverse backgrounds, with 63% of students having an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background.

Port Hedland is a dynamic town in Western Australia’s beautiful North West located approximately 1,800 km north of Perth. We are home to around 16,000 people from diverse cultural backgrounds and cover 11,844 square kilometres of the Pilbara region.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work-related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course;
  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

TRAINING

Employees will be required to:

  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.

COVID-19 REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are advised of the recently announced mandatory vaccination policy for various occupations and workforces in WA. Employees working in, or attending school sites are required to be vaccinated in accordance with the policy.
