East Kimberley College (EKC) is seeking to employ an enthusiastic and hardworking Visual Arts Primary Teacher to join our team and provide a positive learning experience for our diverse student body.
About the Role
The successful applicant will ideally be able to show a strong knowledge of the Western Australian Visual Arts curriculum and effective teaching programs to build upon our current outstanding Visual Arts program. You will ideally be student focused and able to show highly developed interpersonal skills while working collaboratively with staff and our wider community.
EKC is an Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) school and applicants will ideally have an aptitude for EDI philosophy and embrace the highly developed pedagogical practice of the College. Applicants should have an understanding or be able to show the use of EDI in the Visual Arts Learning Area to drive student improvement.
A knowledge of Targeted Teaching is desirable. EKC is in partnership with the Kimberley Schools Project (KSP) and supports teachers with coaching and professional learning.
Knowledge and the application of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is desirable. Applicants should be willing to engage in whole school development and practise. An understanding of the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework is desirable, as EKC has greater than 50% Indigenous student enrolment.
The successful applicant will ideally have the ability to engage with the wider community with an Arts focus and be willing to undertake extra-curricular duties to promote the Arts program in the community.
Our School
EKC has approximately 890 students of which 650 are enrolled in the Primary area. The College offers all that one would expect in a large metropolitan school yet has the unique friendly atmosphere typical of a rural school community. Our college strives to ensure all students, regardless of ability level, cultural and social background, are provided with the opportunity to reach their full potential.
The Location and Community
The College is located on a large, well-maintained and attractive site in the centre of Kununurra. The school draws from a diverse town population representing Aboriginal communities, agricultural, horticultural, mining and related service industries. An extensive range of State and Commonwealth agencies are represented in Kununurra and they work closely with the school to ensure the best support is available for our students.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements; and
- Complete the Department’s Aboriginal Cultural Appreciation course.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
