The Department of Education is seeking two (2) highly dedicated and motivated leaders for the role of Principal Investigator. This role involves managing a team of senior investigators in a dynamic, challenging and diverse workplace.

The Standards and Integrity Directorate, within the Professional Standards and Conduct Division delivers a range of integrated functions including the assessment of complaints, conducting disciplinary processes associated with alleged breaches of discipline by staff, and responding to critical incidents. The Directorate also delivers proactive professional learning packages related to misconduct, fraud and corruption prevention.
The successful applicants will supervise and conduct high level, complex and sensitive investigations, and oversee the completion of reviews into critical incidents. The Department is seeking applicants with excellent communication skills and the ability to write high level reports outlining the actions taken during the investigation/review and providing recommendations to senior management and the Director General. Liaising with internal and external stakeholders is a key part of this role.
The Standards and Integrity Directorate is focused on continuous business improvement, enhancing its capabilities and providing high level services to the Department.
The successful applicant will ideally possess:
- Experience in interviewing children
- Substantial experience in conducting investigations relating to fraud and corruption
- Tertiary qualifications in Investigation Management

- Substantial skills and experience in the management of high-level, complex and sensitive investigations and reviews, including the ability to respond to complaints and breaches of discipline within a public sector environment.
- Capacity to provide high level advice and guidance on sensitive matters at all levels in relation to investigation/review findings and recommendations.
- Highly developed leadership and team management skills with ability to motivate, develop and support individuals and groups and provide quality customer service.
- High level analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to communicate, consult, and negotiate at all levels.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- hold a current C class drivers licence
- travel intrastate as required
- complete a declaration prior to employment and annually thereafter, disclosing any
- previous disciplinary findings, criminal charges or convictions, and ongoing conflicts of interest
- provide a statement from previous employer/s with regard to any disciplinary findings
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete
- the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
