About the role
This is a unique opportunity to be part of the iconic history of the Australian Outback.
To be successful in this role, ideally you will be an excellent communicator with students, colleagues, families and have good computer skills with the experience to use web conferencing. It is desirable that the successful applicant has experience working in a multi-age classroom.
At KSOTA, we are a dynamic team who is invested in educating some of the most remote students in the country. The successful applicant will ideally have experience in explicit and/or direct instruction. KSOTA is committed to implementing the strategies and sequence of the Kimberley Schools Project (KSP). We also use direct instruction programs, such as Spelling Mastery, to support our learners.
It is necessary that the successful applicant is able to travel to remote locations to support students and their families, travel via small charter flights and/or drive on unsealed roads and be available to attend semester camps. These opportunities are highlights in the school’s termly calendars.
Our school
Kimberley School of the Air (KSOTA) provides educational services to children living in remote and isolated locations across the Kimberley region of WA.
KSOTA caters for the educational needs of geographically isolated children from preschool to Year 6 in the Kimberly region of Western Australia. The school is characterised by high quality, flexible work and learning spaces – with a major focus on cutting edge educational technology. The teaching environment is wide and varied with online lessons, teacher visits to students in remote locations and a number of camps across the Kimberly during the year.
The location and community
Spread across an area of some 450, 000 sq. km, these children live on remote cattle stations, stations now catering to tourism, small Aboriginal communities or out-stations, roadhouses and national parks. The student population varies across the dry and wet seasons of the sub-tropical north.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
