The School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement (SSEN: BE) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and dynamic Lead School Psychologist to the leadership team.
This vacancy is for a full time appointment, comprised of:
- permanent part-time (0.8FTE) tenure
- part-time (0.2FTE) fixed term appointment for twelve (12) months, with possibility of extension and/or permanency
Part of Statewide Support Services, the SSEN: BE provides a continuum of services, working with school and regional teams to support students with extreme, complex and challenging behaviours. SSEN: BE service provision is delivered through 13 Engagement Centres across the state, as well as a small, specialised learning academy in Midland designed to address the needs of highly disengaged secondary students. Engagement Centres deliver services for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. These services complement other teams working in networks, regions and schools. Administration of the SSEN: BE is based at the Statewide Services Centre, Padbury.
As Lead School Psychologist, you will be based at the Statewide Services Centre, Padbury and directly accountable to the Principal, SSEN: BE. You will be professionally accountable to the Chief Psychologist, School Psychology Service, and your practice will be guided and directed by Departmental policies and guidelines and the Psychology Board of Australia’s (Board) professional standards. The Lead School Psychologist provides leadership and access to professional support and learning for SSEN: BE school psychologists, to achieve standards outlined in the Competency Framework for School Psychologists. The position assures the quality of SSEN: BE school psychologists’ practice meets the professional standards of the Department and the Board, and also leads in the provision of contemporary psychological practices.
The successful applicant will work collaboratively with two other Lead School Psychologists, leading the team of school psychologists located in Engagement Centres and the Midland Learning Academy, and ensuring effective deployment of school psychology services within SSEN: BE. They will provide advice and support in the most complex of cases, working with other schools and branches across Statewide Support Services and other agencies as required. As part of the senior leadership team, they will make a contribution to the future direction and strategic development of the SSEN: BE.
This role may entail travel between sites across the school, including the potential for overnight stays.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Leadership of strategic partnerships to build capacity, influence systemic policy and undertake interventions and prevention programs.
- Leadership and engagement in a variety of professional activities that indicate critical self-reflection, flexibility, exemplary practice and the development of learning communities.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA); and
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching (minimum one year); or
- hold a Graduate Diploma in School Psychology (or equivalent); or
- have undertaken a minimum placement of 40 days in the school education sector as part of higher degree studies in psychology; or
- have worked a minimum of three years full-time (or equivalent part-time) as a school psychologist (or equivalent position).
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
Employees are required to have achieved Advanced Skills School Psychologist status for permanent appointment to this position.
