Hammond Park Secondary College (SC) is a new school moving into its third year of operation, and is seeking to appoint a dedicated, highly competent and enthusiastic Student Support Officer.
The Student Support Officer will work collaboratively with the Student Wellbeing Team to assist in implementing a range of systems and strategies which provide a responsive and effective support service for students, their family members and the Student Wellbeing Team.
As a Student Support Officer you will use exceptional interpersonal skills to develop supportive links between the student, the family, the school and other appropriate agencies in the community. The position requires someone to be highly organised and have the ability to prioritise tasks, work under pressure, and maintain confidentiality at all times.
In this role you will also undertake a wide range of administrative and student focused support services within the school. Ideally you will possess strong computer skills using various Microsoft office and Department of Education databases, such as student records and management information systems that relate to attendance, good standing, uniforms, transfers and personal data. Having the ability to generate statistical, academic and Centrelink reports and letters, as well as being able to coordinate administrative tasks for the student services section will be highly regarded.
Located in Hammond Park on Irvine Parade, the college opened in 2020 to Year 7 Students. The college buildings include state of the art classrooms, a library, administration and extensive student services area. The college also features specialist facilities for performing and visual arts, science laboratories, food and textiles, design and technology workshops and a gymnasium. The cafeteria is the hub of the central precinct and provides indoor and outdoor seating, landscaped gardens and open spaces. Multipurpose courts and oval were also included in the first stage of the build.
Stage 2 of construction will open in 2023 and include additional learning area classrooms, sports courts and playing fields. In 2022 the college will have up 600 students in Years 7-9.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to provide a professional, confidential service to a range of clients.
- Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Experience in the use of computerised management information systems including database, spreadsheet and word processing software.
- Effective organisational skills and experience in providing administrative support with the ability to manage conflicting timelines.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
