This is a permanent part-time (0.2FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2022 

Duncraig Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to employ a dedicated, talented and innovative Teacher - Careers and Course Advisor.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the development and implementation of a subject selection education programme that spans from Year 9 through to Year 11. This includes an annual review of this programme and liaison with key stakeholders involved to discuss proposed changes and improvements. The successful applicant will act as a member of the Senior School Course Counselling Team on an ongoing basis.

The successful applicant will provide individual career planning and guidance sessions for students and families throughout the academic year as well maintaining a detailed understanding of the latest information on ‘Alternate Pathways to University’. Being able to work with groups and individuals as required, develop and present information sessions regarding; pathways to University, TAFE applications, Career Information, and Study Skills. The applicant will also be involved in the ongoing monitoring of WACE at Risk Students.

With an interest in working with young people, successful applicants will have a positive attitude and willingness to work with like-minded people. You will foster a love of learning in your students whilst engaging in ongoing professional learning opportunities. This role requires the suitable applicant to be highly proficient in engaging and motivating students whilst supporting the school’s priorities and business plan.

To be successful in this role you will be a passionate educator, committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. In addition to educating and supporting the ongoing development of student capabilities, you would be student and relationship focused, highly motivated, innovative and work collaboratively in a team environment.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.
