Joseph Banks Secondary College (SC) is seeking a passionate and committed Program Coordinator who will work closely with the Principal and collaboratively with members of the leadership team to provide educational leadership in the school and the community by promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness.

You will promote positive relationships between students, staff, parents and the local community as you lead a Professional Learning Community (PLC) which is proactive, innovative and supportive, to ensure successful learning achievement outcomes for a community of students and teachers. The successful applicant will ideally apply their professional knowledge and understanding of contemporary instructional strategies to promote teaching, learning and student well-being within the school community.

You will ideally display a sound understanding of the case management of students that includes knowledge of effective intervention, monitoring and reporting strategies. You will also ideally possess the ability to provide direction and purpose to staff, to build team capacity, capabilities and cohesion, and to promote an environment of positive quality academic learning experiences for all students.

The College has a clear focus on learning at all levels, for students, staff and our community; and the college was founded upon the following priorities: High expectations and positive relationships; Consistent learning protocols; Consistent teaching protocols and an emphasis on enquiry focussed learning.

As an instructional leader, you will ideally be able to display an ability to build and sustain quality teaching, and to develop a culture of orderliness and high expectations for student achievement through effective data analysis.

Joseph Banks SC, an Independent Public School, is located in the suburb of Banksia Grove, approximately 27 km from the Perth CBD. We currently accept students from Years 7 to 12. The vision for Joseph Banks SC is to create a vibrant culture of excellence, innovation, opportunity and success for students, staff and the community. The focus of our work is on quality teaching and provision of the widest range of opportunities for individual achievement and learning success. Our goal is to develop the school as a centre for best practice in teacher development and student attainment through professional conversation and shared practice.

Our goal is for all students to be literate, numerate and curious, through the provision of a broad based 21st Century curriculum. It is expected that all students will receive individual attention, and support will be provided for all students no matter their background. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia
  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
