Are you passionate about working alongside others to provide high level support to teachers, education assistants and families working with students with additional needs or a diagnosed learning disorder? Are you passionate about developing proactive strategies to support the diverse needs of an active and engaged community?

To be successful in this role you will ideally have experience at assessing student needs, working collaboratively with the school leadership team, developing and implementing clear processes and promoting interagency opportunities to support students and families. You will ideally possess high level interpersonal skills and the ability to form respectful and effective relationships with people within the school and out of the school. This position will involve providing professional learning for both teaching, and non-teaching staff, and workshops for parents/carers, especially in the areas of accommodating student needs, managing anxiety, and trauma informed practice. Evidence of being a reflective practitioner will be highly regarded.

West Leederville PS is located 3km west of the Perth central business district and was founded in 1898. West Leederville PS is a community of learners committed to best practice and visionary, innovative learning experiences that foster the skills, values and attitudes needed in the active pursuit of a sustainable and innovative global future.

Our original buildings are heritage listed and provide unique character with ten classrooms surrounding the traditional school hall. In 2010, a new library, music and art/science facility was completed.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  1. Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
  2. Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
  3. High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
  4. Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
  5. Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
  • hold or be eligible for general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; or
  • hold or be eligible for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with:
    • an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited 5th year qualification in psychology; or
    • an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited 4th year qualification and a recognised qualification in teaching (or Graduate Diploma in School Psychology)
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
