Yule Brook College is seeking to establish a pool of Assistant Gardener - Handypersons for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year, up to the end of Term 4, 2022.

Suitable applicants should have a passion for the outdoors and enjoy maintaining the grounds, gardens and facilities for the benefit of our staff, students and school community.

The Assistant Gardener - Handyperson will provide gardening, grounds and facility management support to ensure a safe and clean school environment. They will maintain and present the school grounds and gardens in an attractive, clean and tidy condition, and provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. They will also perform minor repairs and maintenance as requested, as well as other Gardener - Handyperson duties in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines.

Suitable applicants will have effective communication skills to help develop and maintain good working relationships with school staff and external stakeholders. A sound knowledge of safe work practices would also be highly desirable. Experience and/or qualifications in horticulture would be an advantage.

Yule Brook College is a small by-design middle school, located in Maddington, 20km south-east of the Perth CBD in Maddington. The college specialises in the education of students in Years 7 to 10, using the Big Picture design to provide an individualised learning plan based on each student's interests and passions.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Employees will be required to:

  • Complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
  • Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy

COVID-19 REQUIREMENTS
