Merredin College is seeking an ideally enthusiastic, motivated, and highly skilled Primary Physical Education teacher for vacancies arising in 2022. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with their team and contribute to whole school approaches and directions. It is highly desirable that applicants display a high level of collaborative practice together with interpersonal skills to enable effective participation and engagement within the school.

Students need to be challenged and engaged, and a teacher who can cater for differing levels of ability is very important. The successful applicant should have an understanding of visible learning and a pedagogical approach that supports our vision as well as being open to ongoing professional learning, support, peer observation, and feedback. The ability to foster and maintain positive communication with parents in regard to various aspects of student performance will also be highly desirable.

Merredin College is looking for a teacher who ideally has expert skills and knowledge to enhance our vision of being the benchmark in rural education. The successful applicant should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and high levels of emotional intelligence.

It is highly desirable for the successful applicant to have experience in a wide repertoire of strategies including: cooperative learning; reflective teaching and feedback processes; sound classroom management based on restorative practices; and incorporating digital technologies into the curriculum using iPads for creation and with previous knowledge and understanding of programs that develop good mental health and social skills.

Located 256 kilometres east of Perth in the Central Wheatbelt, Merredin College is a lighthouse rural school providing a high quality educational program for 600 students from K-12. We are unique because our students can remain in the safety of the community in which they were born and at the same school for their entire education. Our staff and our families are true partners in the entire schooling process. We have been an Independent Public School since 2017.

Our rigorous yet supportive teaching programs encourage students to become independent learners; beginning in Kindergarten and developed through to Year 12. Meeting the learning needs of all students is important to us. Programs to support literacy and numeracy are in place. We provide engagement programs for our Aboriginal students and our Education Support students have their needs met through tailored support. ICT is embedded to ensure students learn in a contemporary environment and leave school with the skills needed to function in the 21st Century.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
