Melville Senior High School (MSHS) are seeking a dedicated and motivated practitioner to take on the rewarding role of Teacher - Gifted and Talented program.

The successful applicant will take a lead role in increasing the rigour and relevance of Gifted and Talented teaching and learning programs across the school and be the primary contact for parents. This role includes a teaching component (Gifted and Talented classes) of 0.4 FTE with a 0.6 FTE allocation for duties associated with the promotion and development of the program.

The successful applicant will ideally possess understanding and experience in developing teaching and learning programs to extend and enrich Gifted and Talented students and lead, support and develop the capacity in staff to deliver them. Working collaboratively across the school, as part of a dynamic and high functioning Teaching and Learning team, the successful applicant will deliver and promote innovative and engaging teaching styles that allow students to achieve to and beyond their potential, developing analytical, inquiry and critical thinking skills. The ability to provide and celebrate educational opportunities, particularly in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) domains, will be highly desirable.

Passion, expertise and the ability to drive improvement in the following domains are highly desirable:

  • Classroom Management and Instructional Strategies (CMIS)
  • STEM based learning
  • Innovative Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in the classroom
  • Community/University partnerships
  • Support for parents

Melville SHS is a vibrant multi-cultural school which aims to provide students with a world class educational experience. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.
