Baldivis Gardens Primary School (PS) is seeking a highly motivated, collaborative and organised school psychologist with a passion for supporting the whole child to achieve to their potential. They should have a friendly disposition and strong communications skills and be committed to forming positive working relationships with staff, students and parents.
Our school psychologist will be responsible for supporting staff to put in place effective strategies and plans that support the mental health and wellbeing along with the learning and motivation of our students. They will offer guidance on behaviour support, risk management and emergency and critical incident management as well as professional learning for staff and parents. Knowledge and experience in identifying, planning and supporting the staff to address both the individual needs of students at educational risk and students with challenging behaviour, is a requirement of the role.
Baldivis Gardens PS is an Independent Primary School and is part of the South Metropolitan Education District. The Principal is experienced, personable and keen to work with a school psychologist who shares the same passion for supporting student development and achieving our vision of nurturing students to thrive in a safe and supportive learning environment.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold or be eligible for general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; or
- hold or be eligible for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with:
- an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited 5th year qualification in psychology; or
- an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited 4th year qualification and a recognised qualification in teaching (or Graduate Diploma in School Psychology)
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
