Kalamunda Secondary Education Support Centre (ESC) is seeking a Vocational Trainer and Assessor.

The successful applicant will deliver training programs and assessment materials, and lead a team of Special Needs Education Assistants's, in a secondary education support environment. You will also ensure students are fully aware of course requirements and timelines. The successful applicant will maintain assessment records and report results as required. Applicants with a knowledge and understanding of special educational needs (SEN) planning and reporting is desirable.

We are seeking an individual with experience with working with students with disabilities, who can make reasonable adjustments when delivering Certificate I qualifications in Business, Leadership, Life skills and Transport & Logistics, to students with special needs in years 11-13.

Kalamunda Secondary ESC is a school for students with disabilities including intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, psychological disorders and physical disabilities. The diversity of disability, combined with the specific learning needs of individuals, creates a dynamic and complex learning environment that requires a collaborative approach towards meeting all student needs.

The school aims to develop and maximise the social, emotional and academic ability of all students from Years 7 to 13 - for them to be active and productive citizens as they progress through school and transition into the community. All students have an Individualised Education Plan which is developed in consultation with key stakeholders, including parents.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Relevant current industry skills, knowledge, experience and competency in the industry vocation or professional field.
  • Comprehensive understanding and sound knowledge of Training Packages, the Standards for RTOs, Recognition of Prior Learning and competency based training and assessment.
  • Ability to deliver training programs and assessment materials, including making adjustments where appropriate.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills with the appropriate interpersonal skills for working with young people.
  • Initiative and organisational skills and the ability to work as a member of a team.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • hold one of the following:
    • TAE 40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment;
    • TAE 40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment: and
      • TAELLN411 or TAELLN401A; and:
      • TAEASS502 or TAEASS502A or TAEASS502B;
    • a relevant high qualification
  • hold a relevant Certificate lll trade qualification or relevant higher qualification;
  • obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment; and
  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
