Riva Primary School (PS) is seeking a professional, hardworking and reliable School Psychologist to join our team as a foundation member of our staff.
Opening to students in 2022, Riva PS is driven by our community values of respect, inclusion and achievement. Our School Psychologist will be responsible for delivering direct psychological services to identified students, applying psychological skills and knowledge to improve mental health, learning and behavioural outcomes for students in collaboration with school staff, parents, caregivers and other agencies. Early identification, intervention and support for students, including assisting in the development of individual education plans, risk management plans will be key features of this role.
The successful applicant will assist as part of our team in identifying and removing barriers to learning, leading targeted intervention through a response to intervention model and providing professional learning, advice and support to staff to maximise inclusion of all students within the school, while meeting individual needs. You will ideally be an evidence-based practitioner who, like all members of the Riva team, is committed to ongoing learning and professional growth.
Our School Psychologist will assist with the development and implementation of school-based support services and programs, and operate as a member of a collaborative and coordinated student services team, which includes an on-site speech pathologist and occupational therapist, school leadership team, teachers and inclusive education assistants. You will develop processes to accurately record and communicate processes and plans across the interdisciplinary team, parents, carers and our community.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention.
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts.
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold or be eligible for general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia; or
- hold or be eligible for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia with:
- an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited 5th year qualification in psychology; or
- an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council accredited 4th year qualification and a recognised qualification in teaching (or Graduate Diploma in School Psychology)
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
