John Curtin College of the Arts is seeking to establish a pool of outstanding Teachers of Design and Technology for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2022 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2022 school year.
The college anticipates there will be one (1) fixed term, part-time (approximately 0.7FTE) position available upon commencement of the pool.
The college is seeking highly competent, dedicated and experienced teachers capable of teaching woodwork, metalwork and technical graphics to Years 7 to 12 students. The position also includes a significant amount of teaching lower school digital technology.
We are seeking teachers who ideally have experience working with highly able students. Experience and/or interest in participating in cross curricular science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) initiatives would be advantageous. As a selective school, an understanding and/or experience teaching Gifted and Talented students is desirable.
Suitable applicants will ideally support the implementation of the college’s Business Plan, work and teach in a team environment, be committed to whole college approaches and initiatives, and have a strong evidence based approach to teaching. Adopting inclusive practices, differentiating the curriculum and building positive relationships with students, staff and the community are important components of the role.

We use the Arts as a vehicle for student engagement and motivation. The Arts at John Curtin is as much about providing dynamic opportunities for all students (each year we produce over 100 performances/exhibitions) as it is about developing transferable life skills such as empathy, creative and critical thinking, collaboration and the ability to communicate, all important attributes for any future pathway.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Hold full, non-practising or provisional registration with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full, non-practising or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. (Applicants who require a Limited Registration to teach from the TRB are not eligible). TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
