Shenton College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Student Support Officer to join their school.
The successful applicant will collaborate closely with other staff within our existing support structures. You will join a community of motivated educators committed to ensuring the wellbeing of each and every student at our College.
The role of the Student Support Officer includes becoming a member of our Student Support Team and assisting in developing and introducing systems and intervention strategies which provide a responsive and effective support service for students, family members and staff. Your prime role will be to work with students at risk, and with their families. You will provide support and advice to staff on strategies for supporting students to achieve successful educational outcomes. In addition, you will develop links between the student, the family, the college, and other appropriate agencies in the community and establish a network of partnerships with other government and non-government agencies. You will join our multi-disciplinary team in meetings and case conferences and form a part of our College’s response to crisis management. Applicants with additional qualifications in Behavioural or Social Sciences are encouraged to apply to this position, as are applicants with experience working to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities within timelines.
- Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
- Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
