Governor Stirling Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Design and Technology teacher, with the ability to teach in a range of design and technology courses from Years 7-12, including Automotive Engineering, Building and Construction, as well as the Specialist Engineering program in lower school.
The role focuses on instilling in students an appreciation of the design process and developing their skills and pride in the use of tools and machines in bringing those designs to fruition using a variety of materials. The successful applicant will ideally have highly developed professional knowledge in the above curriculum areas, have strong teaching and classroom management skills, and be able to develop good relationships with students and engage them in highly effective learning. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment with the ability to deliver Automotive certificates would be advantageous. They will engage in professional learning and working professionally with colleagues, and have strong communication and interpersonal skills, working as a member of a vibrant and enthusiastic school team.
Governor Stirling SHS, situated on the banks of the Swan River in Woodbridge, is one of the premier schools in Western Australia. Founded in 1959, the school has a rich history of student success and achievement in both the sporting and academic arenas. The new school with state-of-the-art facilities opened in 2013. Our school caters for students of varying abilities offering the Gifted and Talented academic program, full range of academic and Vocational Education Training (VET) programs and Approved Specialist Programs in Engineering, Arts media and AFL Football.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check, and
- Be fully or provisionally registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
