The Finance and Commercial Services Division is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Senior Budget Officer in the Financial Planning and Resourcing branch.
The Senior Budget Officer will have significant experience in management and financial accounting, including modelling and analysis and preparing and reviewing financial performance reports. The successful candidate will maintain current knowledge and understanding of Financial Management Act 2006, Treasurer’s Instructions and Australian Accounting Standards and demonstrate highly developed conceptual, analytical and research skills. The successful candidate will provide advice and support to clients on issues related to funding arrangements and will prepare briefing papers, correspondence, confidential reports and Parliamentary and Ministerial responses.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our division for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Substantial knowledge of Australian accounting standards and concepts, the Financial Management Act 2006, Regulations and Treasurer’s Instructions and considerable experience in accounting and budget management.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical and research skills, including the ability to provide solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues.
- Highly developed skills and organisational skills, including a proven ability to lead individuals through continuous change and deliver a financial management service.
- Highly developed oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including consultation and collaboration to maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and substantial experience in the preparation of detailed financial reports and briefing notes.
- Extensive experience in the development of financial models and use of financial management information systems and budget tools to deliver a financial management service

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold relevant tertiary qualification in business, commerce, finance or related field or equivalent substantial experience
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
