This is a thirty-two (32) month fixed term, full-time position commencing ASAP
Statewide Services is seeking to appoint a highly dedicated and motivated person to undertake a project associated with the program development and service design for services associated with student wellbeing. The position, Principal Consultant is part of the Student Wellbeing branch, within the Student Support Services Directorate based at Statewide Services Centre, Padbury.
The services and support delivered through the Student Support Services Directorate are aligned with functions of Statewide Services to support successful outcomes for all students. This is achieved through a focus on better integration of services with schools, students, families and external service providers, and supporting schools and networks of schools to provide timely, responsive and effective support for each student. Through this work expanded opportunities are created for students to develop the academic, personal and social competencies they will need to participate in the future workforce and society.
The Principal Consultant will work across Statewide Services to undertake project management work including the development of a business case identifying options to enhance existing processes for public schools to source support with mental health and wellbeing services, as outlined. This role will be responsible for leading the implementation of the endorsed option from the business case, undertaking program development and service design work to support procurement processes, developing a communication strategy and identifying an implementation and review process.
The successful applicant will require a good understanding of government processes, and program design possess high‑level communication, conceptual and analytical skills as well as good time management skills to ensure the project is delivered within the identified timeframe. The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships is essential to this role. The successful applicant will need to be to flexible in the nature of the work undertaken, and able to work collaboratively within a team and independently. An understanding of procurement and contracting principles and processes would also be desirable.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Substantial knowledge and understanding of contemporary, evidence-based practices related to student support services.
- Skills and experience in developing and implementing successful student programs, projects or strategies at the school, region, network and/or system level.
- Ability to provide leadership and influence change related to student support services.
- Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to successfully undertake consultations, collaborations and negotiations with senior officers, school leaders and other stakeholders.
- Highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including experience in the preparation of complex reports, briefing notes and professional learning documentation.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
