At the beginning of 2021, Balcatta Senior High School (SHS) launched a new Education Support Program, designed to provide a comprehensive education experience for students with special education needs. The positive start to the program and expansion of the Education Support facilities has created the opportunity for increased resourcing. Balcatta SHS is seeking to appoint a dedicated and skilled Education Support teacher to work with our team, committed to making a difference to the lives of young people with disability through education.
About the Role
The successful applicant will be committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and wellbeing in a supportive environment where success is celebrated. The successful applicant will possess high standards of professionalism and will embrace opportunities for collaboration within the school community.
The successful applicant will have a strong focus on ensuring a safe and appropriate learning environment, and will be experienced in supporting education assistants to deliver evidence-based programs to enhance student outcomes. Ideally you will be a flexible, adaptive teacher and have specialist knowledge and skills related to students with disability, including Intellectual Disability (ID), multiple physical disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The successful applicant should be able to manage class teams and liaise with parents and therapists to meet the educational and care needs of the students. To undertake this role, the successful applicant will ideally have substantial knowledge of Reporting To Parents (in a Special Education Needs context), Schools Resourcing and the Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN) internationals curriculum. You will ideally have experience in supporting senior school students to access Workplace Learning and Vocational programs in their final years of school.
You will ideally have experience using a range of assessment and reporting methods to monitor student achievement in relation to learning outcomes. We are seeking an individual who possess the ability to plan purposeful, relevant and authentic learning experiences that cater for different student learning needs. The ability to incorporate accessibility technology and information and communications technology (ICT) into learning programs will be highly regarded.
You will be required to oversee the development of meaningful and measurable Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and ensure that IEPs outline functional curriculum objectives and support the whole child through targeted social-emotional skills, life skills and Protective Behaviours curriculum. We are seeking an individual who possess highly developed communication skills and has the ability to develop successful working relationships with staff, students, parents and our partners in education.

Balcatta SHS is an Independent Public School with around 800 student enrolments and is situated in the northern suburbs of Perth. The school is in the final stages of an expansion and renovation project and provides state of the art educational facilities to prepare all students for a fulfilling future. As an Independent Public School, we make decisions at the local level to ensure all of our students are successful and to better meet the needs of our school community. Balcatta Senior High School offers a Gifted and Talented Visual Arts Program, an Approved Specialist Program in Dance and has a balanced and stimulating curriculum embedding Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) opportunities across all year levels.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
