Geraldton Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to employ a dedicated and innovative English teacher to join our team.
We are seeking an English teacher who is highly effective in engaging and motivating students and has excellent relationship building skills that allows them to work closely with students, staff colleagues and the community. The successful applicant will form part of a dedicated team that develops, reviews and delivers a comprehensive English curriculum across all year levels. Strong classroom management skills, along with a commitment to achieve the best educational outcomes for students they work with is a large component of this role. The successful applicant will be required to actively participate in planning of curriculum and programs that address the school’s core values of Respect, Responsibility and Doing Your Best.
Participation in Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) and progressive use of ICT in the classroom are expected of all staff at Geraldton Senior High School. Applicants that are able to develop a supportive and positive classroom environment through the use of an explicit instructional framework is highly regarded.
We are seeking a teacher who has a commitment to inclusive education and a strategic approach in planning for improved student outcomes. There is an expectation that the successful applicant will engage in reflective practice that is informed by classroom observation, student feedback and examination of student performance data.
Geraldton Senior High School caters for students in Years 7 – 12, having transitioned from a Year 10-12 senior college over the past 3 years. This will enable students who attend Geraldton SHS from Year 7 the opportunity to complete their entire secondary education at our school.
Our belief is that every child comes to us with unique experiences, learning styles and goals. From this we provide a broad comprehensive education with pathways leading to attainment of an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR), Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications or future employment. We encourage students to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities such as music, drama, dance and sport.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- be fully or provisionally registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
