Burns Beach Primary School (PS) (planning name) is seeking an enthusiastic, professional, positive and dedicated Deputy Principal to take on an integral role in our leadership team.
Burns Beach PS (planning name) will open in 2022 to students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The successful applicant will support the principal to establish a school environment that excels in the way it cares for its students, and their families, developing positive relationships and partnerships with students, staff and the broader school community. You will possess excellent interpersonal acumen and be an innovative and strategic thinker.
The successful applicant will be required to promote, model and maintain high expectations and, in collaboration with the principal, will lead whole school approaches in teaching, learning and instruction, as well as student services, for all students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Importantly, you will lead and support others to create the conditions to continually enhance the quality of teaching and learning, resulting in improved student outcomes.
The successful applicant will work closely with the leadership team to develop a clearly articulated strategic direction that is informed by extensive and rigorous data analysis, is evidence based, and is focussed on continually improving students’ academic, social, and emotional progress. You will effectively support a nuanced balance of explicit teaching and play-based learning in the early years and will support and lead a clearly defined lesson design across all phases of learning, ensuring effective student engagement.
The ability to establish genuine, positive and caring relationships with our students is paramount. Knowledge, understanding and experience in leading Positive Behaviour Support, Classroom Management Strategies (CMS), instructional strategies, Social-Emotional Learning, support of Students at Educational Risk (SAER), Special Education Needs (SEN) planning and, coaching, mentoring and working as part of a professional learning community is essential. The successful applicant will be culturally responsive and respect and celebrate diversity.
Experience in, and knowledge of, leading Early Childhood Education (ECE) including the National Quality Standards (NQS) and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) is highly desirable. The ability to lead, support and manage Information Communications Technology (ICT) would be highly regarded. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
