Harrisdale Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a Humanities and Social Sciences teacher with the experience, dedication and drive to build a culture of excellence in learning and teaching in the learning area.
An appointment to Harrisdale SHS presents a tremendously exciting opportunity to join the staff of a new high school committed to improving students’ lives through learning and achievement. The successful applicant will enjoy a unique opportunity to help establish the school’s Humanities and Social Sciences Learning Area and will play a vital role in developing the school’s emphases on pastoral care and co-curricular programs.
The successful applicant for this position will be an expert, passionate teacher of Humanities and Social Sciences with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in learning and teaching. Harrisdale SHS opened in 2017 at Year 7 level and currently caters for students from Years 7-to-11. Year 12 courses are being introduced in 2022. The successful applicant will therefore demonstrate the professional knowledge, understandings and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary school Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum from the early and middle adolescent phases of learning through to senior school courses of study. Importantly, they will be enthusiastic adopters of a school wide pedagogy based on direct, explicit instruction who are keen to work collaboratively with superordinates and colleagues across the learning areas.
Harrisdale SHS offers a wonderful opportunity for local students to access a high-quality secondary education close to home. Currently, the school has an enrolment of 1,640 students in Years 7 to 11. In 2022, the 'Year 7 Class of 2017' will graduate as Year 12 students.
Harrisdale is a rapidly growing suburb located approximately 28 kilometres south of the Perth CBD. The school is located on Laverton Crescent, adjacent to the City of Armadale's new playing fields and sports pavilion and Harrisdale Primary School.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Be fully or provisionally registered with the Teacher Registration Board (TRB), or be eligible for full or provisional registration prior to commencement of the position. TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
