Appointment Pool
Willetton Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Laboratory Technicians for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2022. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2022.
Suitable applicants will be highly motivated and possess the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently to assist with the efficient operation of the Science Learning Area. They will prepare chemicals, equipment and materials, design and construct teaching aids and collect and care for living organisms for study purposes in compliance with chemical, physical and biological laboratory practices and legislative requirements. They will also be required to prepare for up to 10 classes per session and assist 25 Science teachers.
They will organise preparation areas and classroom laboratories to ensure a safe learning environment for students and staff. They will undertake general housekeeping of chemicals, equipment (including repairs and maintenance), ordering supplies/equipment and assisting with stock management tasks. They will liaise with Science teachers to determine scientific product needs in relation to experiments and identifying future purchase requirements of science equipment.
Willetton SHS has a student population in excess of 2500 and the school is inclusive and comprehensive providing courses for Years 7 to 12. The school successfully caters for the academic, social and emotional development of students with diverse educational needs including those with English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) background, special needs and gifted and talented students. There are approximately 200 teaching staff and 120 support staff on campus. Willetton staff recognise that students are individuals with different histories, interests, abilities and aptitudes. The school is committed to the intellectual, creative and social development of the students by the provision of stimulating and relevant programs and orderly teaching and classroom practices.
The school offers a number of specialist programs to meet student needs and interests. These programs include Gifted and Talented, Specialist Basketball and Computing and there is a strong focus on Vocational Education and Training (VET). There are numerous after school sporting teams, debating and poetry clubs. Willetton SHS is a Lead Language School and a Department of Education Teacher Development School in Languages. Willetton SHS prides itself on an ethos that all students should be successful.
As a highly effective educator you will need to possess an excellent understanding of the Western Australian curriculum, assessment and reporting requirements in lower school and the current senior school courses. This knowledge, combined with pedagogical skills enables the development of programs differentiated for the specific learning needs of all students across the full range of abilities.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Knowledge of general science to Year 12 level or equivalent knowledge or experience.
- Organisational and time management skills and ability to work independently.
- Good verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills.
- Ability to use computers and a range of application software packages.
- Knowledge of safe working practices, laboratory safety requirements and procedures and a willingness for further training related to safety.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
