Narrogin Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an exemplary and high performing Deputy Principal who is strategic, innovative and team-oriented to complement the executive leadership team.
This new leadership position will require the successful applicant to provide a level of strong leadership in the school by developing and promoting the school vision, values, ethos and priorities and encouraging staff, students, families, community and others to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals.
As an integral member of the executive leadership team, you will ideally lead and develop innovative solutions; establish and maintain collaborative and productive relationships with stakeholders, and build a culture of professional excellence with leaders, teachers and allied staff so that students are future-ready and able to contribute effectively in the wider community. The successful applicant will establish and maintain collaborative and respectful relationships with the school community, ensuring all students’ needs are met. We are looking for an individual committed to achieving the best outcomes for our students. It would be desirable for applicants to possess strong leadership teaching qualities, ability to use evidence based planning to improve learning outcomes and be able to work through complex student services situations in both a team environment and individually.
The successful applicant will lead and support other leaders and staff to enact the school’s vision and mobilise key priorities of the NSHS Strategic Plan. As a highly visible leader, you will exhibit a love of learning and a growth mindset. Currency in contemporary understanding of leading school improvement, change initiatives and the ability to effectively use evidence-based data to inform decision-making should underpin your successful practice. As a highly successful instructional leader, you will ideally possess strong professional knowledge to lead quality differentiation of curriculum, learning and assessment that reflect contemporary pedagogical research and practices so that our students are equipped with 21st century skills.
The successful applicant will be a prominent leader within the school and the wider community, overseeing a significant and diverse area of the school’s operations. To be successful in this role, you will ideally have recent and relevant whole school curriculum and pastoral care leadership. Student engagement is a high priority. Knowledge of contemporary student services systems, procedures and protocols is highly desirable. The successful applicant will exhibit a broad skillset with the capacity to provide leadership in the key domains of Curriculum, Student Services, Senior Schooling and Operations which rotate between the executive team to meet school needs. Hence, the successful applicant should possess appropriate knowledge and transferrable skills that would allow them to lead the other portfolios as needed. Creating and promoting an environment conducive to active and positive learning, and which caters for different student learning needs, is highly desirable. In addition, the ability to engage students using a range of instructional approaches, knowledge of effective classroom management strategies and restorative practices is desirable.
In pursuing a performance culture, you will lead the engagement of teachers and teacher-leaders in reflective practices and individual accountability processes using the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) Teacher Standards. Importantly, the successful applicant will lead and support others to create conditions to improve the quality of teaching, learning and student outcomes.
Related leadership and management responsibilities will include but are not limited to, reporting on student performance and wellbeing; developing, establishing and maintaining administrative and student management information systems; high level demonstrated understanding of school operations including reporting to parents; effective use of system data bases; and excellent knowledge of and experience with implementing the WA curriculum. It would be desirable for the successful applicant to have the capacity to play a leadership role in the application of technology for enhancing management practices and educational outcomes. The school utilises the Department’s network and uses other alternative learning management systems such as connect and compass.
Narrogin SHS is an Independent Public School with a student population of approximately 650 students. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
