Pinjarra Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and hardworking educator with outstanding leadership skills to join their team as Head of Learning Area - English
The successful applicant will demonstrate exemplary teaching, learning and behaviour management approaches which will be used to model best practice for the English learning area and across the school. You will have outstanding knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and Senior Secondary WACE courses, along with assessment and reporting procedures. The ability to develop curriculum programs which are inclusive of differentiated instructional and assessment strategies to meet the needs of a diverse range of students will also be essential.
As a Head of Learning Area, you will have the ability to lead school improvement and change initiatives and continually reflect on the quality and effectiveness of teaching and learning throughout the English Department. You must demonstrate the capacity to gather and interpret data to inform team planning and assessment, and utilise evidence to drive change and improve students’ academic performance.
The successful applicant must have highly developed communication skills to facilitate effective collaboration with others to sustain a professional team culture. You must demonstrate the ability to build staff capacity and lead reflective performance development with staff members. A coaching approach to individual staff performance management would be highly desirable.
As a member of the school’s Leadership team you will be required to shape and implement the school’s Business Plan and participate in decision making about the whole school strategic direction. You will promote the school’s vision and strategic priorities working alongside school leaders, teachers and community members.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.
