Governor Stirling Senior High School (GSSHS) is seeking to establish a pool of enthusiastic, engaging and highly competent Humanities and Social Science (HASS) Teachers, with a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements up until the end of Term 4, 2021.
Suitable applicants will be student and relationship focused, highly motivated, innovative and able to work effectively in a team environment, as well as exhibit an engaging and energetic teaching style. Adopting inclusive and restorative practices, and building positive relationships with students, staff and the community, are important components of the appointments. The ability to establish and maintain effective communication with parents and caregivers is vital.

Ideally applicants will have a detailed knowledge and understanding of the year 7 – 12 Western Australian Humanities and Social Sciences Curriculum and appointed staff will be given the opportunity to work across these year groups, according to the school’s needs. Applicants will need to possess the professional knowledge, understandings and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary school HASS curriculum, have proven success working with students with a range of ability levels and be proficient at developing resources that meet the educational needs of our students.
We are seeking teachers who can extend and adjust their pedagogy to accommodate individual student needs and maximise progress. Experience in the teaching of one or more of the following courses or program areas would be ideal: Year 11 and/or 12 Modern History, Geography, Psychology and Gifted and Talented.
GSSHS, situated on the banks of the Swan River in Woodbridge, caters for students of varying abilities, and offers the Department of Education Gifted and Talented Academic Program, a range of academic and Vocational Education Training (VET) programs and Approved Specialist Programs in Engineering, Arts Media and AFL Football. Governor Stirling SHS prepares students for life after high school with many options for academic and vocational pathways.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.
