Leonora District High School (DHS) is seeking a passionate, committed and driven Deputy Principal with effective leadership skills to join our supportive school leadership team.
The successful applicant will work with the principal and staff to review, plan and implement effective strategies that promote the school’s values, beliefs and priorities. You will ideally have a sound understanding of collaborative practices as well as the ability to work as a team member within a professional learning culture in order to achieve high educational outcomes for every student. As Deputy Principal you will support the Principal in promoting the shared vision and core values of the school reflected in the school business plan and the strategic direction across the school community.
A significant responsibility of this role will in collaboration with the Principal will be to review the operation plan to reflect the targets/objectives set in the school business plan and monitoring the cycle of assessment. Applicant will have an understanding of the whole school approaches to Literacy and Numeracy and an ability to analyse the data to inform the school performance development and individual teacher development.
To be successful in this role you will be highly motivated, innovative and an enthusiastic educator who will be responsible for leadership across both Primary and Secondary sections of the school. The successful applicant will develop positive relationships with students, staff and parents and engage parents and the wider community in the educational work of the school. The successful applicant will have a high level of interpersonal skills and the capacity to deal with challenging situations in a calm positive manner.
Leonora DHS is situated in Leonora, a town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia, located approximately 833 kilometres northeast of the state capital, Perth, and 237 kilometres north of the city of Kalgoorlie. The school caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Staff, parents and the wider community came together to create a shared vision for the school. Through a process where every voice was heard, consensus was reached on a description of the school we want for our students. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
Training
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
