Castlereagh School is seeking to engage a talented and passionate education support teacher with appropriate swimming teacher qualifications, including “Teacher of Aquatics - Access & Inclusion”, and practical experience in working with children and young people with complex communication and learning needs.  The successful applicant will be expected to utilise these qualifications, and their specific skills, in providing a high-quality hydrotherapy and swimming program at the school.

Castlereagh School motivates children and young adults aged four to 18 in a vibrant, nurturing, educational environment.  Whilst we foster academic skills through the Western Australian Curriculum, we also place great value on everyday living, enterprise and social skills, encouraging our students to be as independent as possible.  We regard every student to be an individual with their unique strengths, needs and learning preferences.

Our teachers share a significant responsibility in preparing young people to lead successful and productive lives.  It would be highly desirable for the successful applicant to possess the following attributes:

  • highly motivated, innovative and have high level interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with colleagues, parents, therapists, students and the school community;
  • be extremely collaborative and work to improve the outcomes of all children and young adults in a team environment;
  • monitor, review and report on the achievements of students by creating individualised learning plans, maintaining relevant, rigorous and valid programing, data collection and reporting systems; and
  • actively engage in self-refection to improve their practice and engage in observation and feedback practices to develop their understanding of our whole school programs and pedagogy.

This is a role that demands the talent and skills necessary to achieve the highest quality results in a high-risk environment.

The successful applicant will be assisted with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) professional learning, our co-regulation approach when supporting students, and ASDAN professional learning to assist them in developing individual learning programs for Castlereagh students. Applicants are required to implement the Western Australian Curriculum and senior school curriculum whilst implementing the ASDAN Programs (Years 7 to 12).

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.
