Mount Helena Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of innovative and highly committed Kindergarten to year 6 teachers, for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2020 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2021. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2020 school year, up to the end of Term 4, 2021.
Mount Helena PS can be found in the eastern reaches of the Darling Ranges. Surrounded by native forest, the school provides an opportunity for students to engage in a rich curriculum with a focus on environmental education. The school provides a positive and friendly learning environment, and is highly regarded by all who pass through its portals. Mount Helena PS has a strong pastoral care approach, underpinned by the ‘Leader in Me - 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’. We are seeking teaching staff who are highly collaborative, proactive and willing to continually self-reflect and improve their own practice, to develop students who are life-long learners. Teachers at Mount Helena PS are expected to work in partnership with parents and the broader community, creating a welcoming and vibrant environment for students.
Suitable applicants will work to further develop and embed whole school programs and pedagogical approaches, e.g. Literacy Block, Numeracy Block, Letters and Sounds (synthetic phonics program), Seven Steps to Writing Success and utilising a hands on, problem solving approach to mathematics. Underpinning teaching practice will be the Leader in Me program, supporting students to become proactive and independent in their learning journey. Applicants will be expected to work in an environment committed to whole school approaches.
A focus on early intervention and differentiating the curriculum to meet the needs of each student is required, ensuring success for; students with special needs, students at education risk and students requiring extension. You may be required to work with outside agencies and implement targeted strategies, gathering data to support and assess student progress.
Suitable applicants will need to be able to work within a distributed leadership model. Staff will actively engage in the development of cohorts of students, through collaborative planning and targeted data analysis.
Vacancies may arise during the life of this pool that require specialist qualifications (for example vacancies within Early Childhood Education). Only applicants, in the pool, possessing the required qualifications will be considered for appointment in these circumstances.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
