We are seeking self-motivated teachers with a ‘can do’ attitude to support our students to learn, to establish effective networks with industry and prepare them for the workplace
Margaret River Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to establish a pool of Career and Vocational Education Teachers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year.
As Teacher – Career and Vocational Education, you will develop and deliver a dynamic Career Development and Workplace Learning (WPL) and General Course Curriculum to students from Year 9 to 12, including career and work-readiness classes.
Suitable applicants will be responsible for supporting the delivery of selection, training and induction of students for the workplace, the induction and training of workplace supervisors and fostering networks for workplace teachers and assessors. You will play a key role in locating appropriate industry placements for students and be responsible for conducting site checks and meeting with prospective employers. Additionally, you will be required to monitor student progress in the workplace, manage the budget for the program, undertake relevant paperwork and maintain the program's database.
In this role, you will be involved in career counselling, identifying pathways for employment and locating appropriate industry placements for students. Assisting students with job applications, resumes, interview preparation, and a review of their performance will also be a requirement for this role.
It is desirable for applicants to have a knowledge of the WPL modules, legislative requirements and departmental policies and procedures, and preferably with advanced skills in developing, implementing and evaluating WPL programs and the Career and Enterprise Curriculum.
As a suitable applicant, you will have high expectations, demonstrate a commitment to excellence, use a range of pedagogies and have the ability to establish and maintain a positive classroom learning environment.
A high level of written, oral and interpersonal communication skills will enable you to establish and maintain strong relationships with staff, students and parents, and to facilitate effective school and industry partnerships. A positive team spirit with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment to prevent, moderate or resolve conflict through effective negotiation will be necessary for this role.
Highly developed organisation skills with the proven ability to initiate, plan and coordinate activities within the school that promote a positive career development philosophy will be a requirement, as will strong computer skills, a working knowledge of databases, spread sheets and word processing, including the use of Reporting to Parents (RTP).

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
