Geraldton Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a Student Services Deputy Principal who is a passionate and dynamic leader and is wanting to be part of a committed and dedicated school Executive team.
As the successful Deputy Principal Students Services, you will be required to work with all members of the school staff in leading, managing and supporting the well-being and pastoral care of students. As part of your responsibilities, the role requires the leading and overseeing a number of significant areas across the school including attendance, behaviour management, risk and facility management and student transition. A key aspect of the role is to ensure there is a positive culture across the school as students demonstrate our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Doing Your Best. This builds on the Positive Behaviour Support program that is embedded within the school.
The leading and management of a team of support staff within Student Services is another key role of the Deputy Principal. The Student Services team includes the Manager of Student Services who is a Level 3 Administrator, Year Coordinators, the school Chaplain, Psychologist, Community Health Nurse and school Administration Officers. All these people play a significant role in supporting the well-being and pastoral care of students at the school. We are looking for a successful applicant who has strong leadership skills and is able to provide strategic direction through the development and refining of school policies aligned to the Student Services area of the school.
Geraldton SHS opened in 1939 and is steeped in tradition. There is a great sense of pride in what the school has achieved over an extensive period of time. At Geraldton SHS you will be a part of the Executive team, making key future focused decisions as the school continues to transition from a Year 10-12 senior college to a Year 7-12 mainstream senior high school. This transition will be completed in 2021.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
