Caversham Valley Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Gardener - Handyperson for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2020 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2021. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2020 school year, up to the end of Term 4, 2021.
Suitable applicants will have a passion for the outdoors and enjoy working to provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. You will be responsible for maintaining and presenting our school grounds in a clean tidy and welcoming condition. We are looking for team players to work collaboratively with all staff as part of a whole school community. As part of the role you will be required to carry out minor repairs and maintenance as requested as well as other Gardener – Handyperson duties in accordance with the Departments policies and guidelines.
The foundation staff will work closely with the leadership team to drive the direction of the school from the establishment and build a connected community to foster a culture of high performance and high care for all students. They will support positive relationships with students, staff, families and external agencies.
Our school is located 15km from the centre of Perth in the growing suburb of Caversham, near the Swan Valley, surrounded by rapidly developing housing estates with many young families. Our school community includes families of different backgrounds and cultures, many from overseas where English is not always the first language or dialect spoken at home.
This brand new school opened in 2020 for Kindergarten to Year 6 students, with our campus consisting of Administration, four teaching blocks, undercover assembly area, large library, excellent sporting facilities, and well maintained grounds providing a pleasant and inviting environment. Our teaching and learning environments will reflect a positive and innovative approach to maximising learning opportunities for students.

- Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in maintaining grounds and gardens, including turf management.
- Experience in minor servicing of horticultural/gardening equipment and performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials and chemicals.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
