We are seeking to establish a pool of Early Childhood Teachers for appointments fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year. Knowledge and use of English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EALD) teaching strategies is highly desirable. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year.

Suitable applicants will work collaboratively with others to help create and maintain an engaging and stimulating learning environment for our Early Childhood students to enjoy, and will be able to help inspire students to develop a passion for learning throughout life.

Christmas Island DHS is located approximately 360km southwest of Java and 2300km northwest of Perth, Western Australia. The island is believed to be the remnant of an extinct submarine volcano. Christmas Island's (CI) climate is tropical, with little seasonal variation in temperature. The island experiences a distinct tropical rainfall pattern with a market wet season occurring from approximately January to May with a dry season between August and October.

The Indian Ocean Territories Schools are able to provide an exciting and unique teaching experience, unlike anywhere else in Australia. By agreement, these two Commonwealth schools are administered by the Western Australian Department of Education. Where possible, employment conditions mirror Western Australian mainland schools. Teachers can be appointed for a maximum three year fixed term contract on the islands.  Department of Education permanent teachers are able to maintain attachment to their substantive school, subject to line management approval.

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.
