Beverley District High School (DHS) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher of Design and Technology to join their friendly team.
The successful applicant will possess the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding to teach Design and Technologies up to and including Year 12 level. You will ideally have recent experience teaching Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) units and be able to thoroughly implement the requirements of the West Australian Curriculum. You will be expected to support the implementation of the School’s business plan, work and teach in a team environment, be committed to whole school approaches and initiatives, and have a strong evidence based approach to teaching. As part of your standard practice, you will reflect on and assess the effectiveness of your teaching practices using a variety of methods available within the school. You will provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve to their highest potential. In addition, the ability to engage students using a range of skills, knowledge of effective classroom management strategies and restorative practices would be highly desirable.
As the Teacher of Design and Technology, you will be a team player and have a focus on instilling an appreciation of engineering principles and systems while developing the students’ skills in the use of tools and machines to bring designs to fruition using a variety of materials. You will have highly developed professional and practical knowledge in areas including Woodwork and/or Metal Technology, have strong teaching and classroom management skills, and be able to develop good relationships with students and engage them in highly effective learning. The ideal applicant will have industry liaison and/or secondary transitions experience. You will be able to support students seeking VET pathways in their pursuit of courses or traineeships in agriculture, construction, engineering or related fields.
We are looking to appoint a Teacher who is willing to engage in relevant professional learning and demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, working as a member of a vibrant and enthusiastic school team. Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health and how that relates to the workshop environment with students is highly desirable, as is a current Cert IV in Training and Assessment or a willingness to obtain one.
Beverley DHS is a small school of around 150 students in a vibrant community situated around 90 minutes from the outskirts of Perth. Our families live in town or on farms or hobby blocks in surrounding areas. The community is very active in arts and sports, and is friendly and welcoming. Our school is an Independent Public School and we work closely with the community to ensure that the school is sustainable, supportive and successful.
This is a highly specialised role. In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered. In this circumstance, a fixed term appointment as an untrained teacher for the 2020 school year will be offered.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
