Broome Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health and Physical Education (HPE) Teacher to join their friendly team. We are seeking someone who is energetic and has a passion for teaching. The successful applicant will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be willing to promote the school in the broader community.
Broome SHS, winner of the WA School of the Year for 2012, is now one of the premier high schools in the state. A high performing school with a diverse student population, including 40% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, the school has grown to over 900 enrolments and offers a wide range of subjects through to Year 12.
The development of positive, respectful relationships between staff and students is a high priority within the school, along with academic excellence. The successful applicant will be student and relationship focused, enthusiastic, innovative and motivated, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. They will be strong communicators with excellent relationship building skills. The successful applicant will engage in ongoing self-reflection to assess the effectiveness of teaching practice, and embrace the integration of Information and Communications Technology to create an environment conducive to learning. They will also have the skills to differentiate content in lessons to provide purposeful and relevant learning experiences that cater for a range of student learning needs.
Teachers considered suitable for this position will have training and experience in teaching Year 7-10 Health and Physical Education, relevant knowledge and a willingness to work collaboratively with others to develop new WA Australian Curriculum programs and teaching resources for HPE, and the ability to work within a team to facilitate the effective coordination of sporting carnivals and events.
The following qualities are considered highly desirable but not essential: experience teaching students with varying literacy levels, Aboriginal students and those with Special Needs and up to date qualifications that enhance HPE and Outdoor Education programs, eg; Surf Rescue, Bronze Medallion and bus licence. A capacity and willingness to teach a class of Year 7 Dance would be an advantage.
Broome is a vibrant and attractive coastal town in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. As a tourist town, Broome is well resourced regarding facilities and services.
Applicants offered a position who reside at least 50kms from the appointed location will eligible for Government Regional Officer’s Housing (GROH) housing and assistance with the movement of furniture and vehicle to Broome
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
